The Accountable Care Organization is showing promise as being a successful model for creating the accountability needed for healthcare providers to increase healthcare quality and efficiency. Through transparent performance measurement and payment model reform, the ACO model has the potential to be the next great shift in the delivery and reimbursement of healthcare. Many hospitals are struggling with how to get started evaluating what gaps exist in their current physician complement and what additional organizational capabilities are needed in regards to preparing for ACOs.
This program will provide some preliminary definition of what the ACO model will look like, and how potential payment models will be constructed, as well as what challenges healthcare providers will face. Ultimately, this program will define the core competencies needed to begin the development of an ACO.
